Summary:
After what happen in Japan is nuclear energy even worth it. Scientists say that big disaster like what happen in Japan will never happen in US, but what if they did. It could happen, then what would we do with that area? How would we clean it up? These are all reasons why we shouldn't use nuclear energy. Also what happens to all of the nuclear waste, what do we do with that. The world needs to focus on more renewable energy like wind energy not nuclear energy. Renewable energy doesn't have a peak in price because it’s fuel(wind) is free. Unlike nuclear energy were the price will only increase as time goes on. In the long term nuclear energy is not for the future.
Reflection:
I completely agree. Nuclear energy is not for the future. Even though nuclear energy does not pollute, I do not think it’s a good source of energy. Eventually we will run out of uranium then nuclear energy will become useless. We need to stop making nonrenewable energy and switch to the clean safe renewable energy. If we did continue to use nuclear energy then what would we do with all of the nuclear waste. Also what if some kind of disaster happened, then what. Nuclear isn’t safe or renewable, it’s not worth the risk.
Questions:
1. What is your opinion on nuclear energy?
2. Do you think nuclear energy is a good source of energy?
3. What type of energy would be a good replacement for nonrenewable energy?
4. What do you think is the best way to get energy?

I have to disagree with drake on this. I think nuclear energy is a great alternative energy source and will continue to become more popular in the future. Just because there are nuclear meltdowns doesn't mean nuclear energy is very dangerous. Our entire world is dependent on oil, which creates the possibility for oil spills. I'm not an expert on this topic, but from what I know it seems like oil spills are much more common, and have a bigger environmental impact than nuclear incidents. When you think about it, the risks of nuclear plants are not that much greater than the risks created by oil. Most energy sources are potentially dangerous and before we jump to conclusions about this we should do a little more research. (I answered questions 1 and 2 in my comment).
ReplyDeleteKyle took the words right out of my mouth. I could not agree more. I think that nuclar energy is a great alternatvie energy source and at some points is better than oil, coal and natural gas. Do not get me wrong, meltdowns are a terrible thing, but so are oil spills. With every alternative energy source, there cons, but there are also pros to them too. The cons should not stop us from using that energy. They should only make us cautious of the dangers. Overall, I think that nuclear energy is a great alternative energy because it saves lots of time and money in athe long run. I can relate to this very easily because I research nuclear energy for the project we just had to do. I know a lot more about nuclear energy then what was written here, so that is why I believe it is a great alternative energy. (answered questions 1 &2 in my comment)
ReplyDeleteI'm sort of on the fence with nuclear energy; I agree with both Kyle and Emily, and Drake. Nuclear energy has both positives and negatives. A nuclear accident is just AWFUL to have happen and there is so much money spent on making sure that everything is safe and that this doesn't happen. But it's also, very reliable and produces huge amounts of energy with little fuel. Depending on who you are and how you look at things, nuclear energy could be the best/worst resource for you. But unlike me I am on the fence, as well as my opinion for many other resources such as hydroelectric and tidal energy. (answered 1)
ReplyDeleteI feel just like Colby does. I'm on the fence, I agree with Kyle and Emily yet I also agree with Drake. Nuclear energy has a lot of positives but it also has its' negatives. We have a lot of nuclear energy and a little amount can go a long way. Nuclear energy is a great alternative energy source but then again once in a while you may have those nuclear accidents. It reminds me of the paper we did on the accident in Japan. Even though it can cause a lot of damage to the environment and the people, nuclear energy should be used in the future, we just need to make more precautions.
ReplyDeleteTo answer Drake's first question I believe nuclear energy is a good source of energy. There is a lot of nuclear energy that we could replace and use as an alternative for fossil fuels. It doesn't cause a lot of pollution and the expenses should pay for them selves in the long run. All in all nuclear energy is a good source of energy for the future if we can provide more ways to decrease the rates of nuclear accidents.
